Nothing. Nada. I walked in with my 22 lb service dog, a jack russell that I had put into my booking. I was harassed by the girl at front desk immediately. She told me I had to have a service dog ID. That is a lie. Then she wanted to know my disabilities, and I told her she was not allowed to ask for the name of the disability but could ask me what the dog helps me with concerning my disabilities. She threatened me with bringing in a black light after I leave to check for urine and if they decide there is urine or more I lose my $100.09 deposit. My dog is trained and never goes to bathroom indoors. He even lays on a clean blanket that I bring because I don't trust the cleanliness of their bedding. She finally brought out a form for me to fill out for the service dog which I filled out as I have done at other hotels. When I got my bill she had deducted $35.00 as though my dog is a pet. I called and they said it was in the process of being refunded but it never was. I am sending them a letter to refund and if they don't I will sue them under the ADA, Americans with Disabilties Act. I am notifying the better business bureau too. Lousy experience I did not feel well after the encounter. Stressed me out with her threats and I was only staying there because of my finances. Room was clean, good sized, and used materials that did not retain smells, such as luxury vinyl plank and ceramic tile. Shower was large and ceramic and new. Sink area was large and also newer. The location was awesome as it is very close to the beach and to restaurants and cafes. Very walkable. Also dog friendly! A definite plus!

You cannot beat the location of the Scandia Motel. It is on the edge of Carlsbad--an easy walk to cafés and restaurants and a 5 minute walk to the beach. It is not fancy, but it is clean, well-kept--the owners clearly take pride in tending the grounds--and a wonderful surprise to find in Carlsbad. If your priority is ease of movement around Carlsbad and its delights, then this is the place.

Some people like the sound of trains. Some don’t. That’s an individual choice. They didn’t run too often to bother me, Otherwise, as my room was at the end, and quiet.

This place was so gross we couldn’t even stay there, checked In, got the key, and the disgusting taped tv remote they hand to you at check in. Opened the room door and immediately returned to check in and gave back the remote and left.
